HOUSE & GARDEN TOUR . . .
- A former rooming house boasts a painstaking restoration by its ingenious “do-it-yourself” owners returning it to the serene family residence it was built to be.
- Cooking their way through a recipe book with friends inspired owners to create a fabulous kitchen with cherry wood and granite center work island/dining area in a 1909 home replete with Arts & Crafts details. A narrow deck with stairs, illuminated through a slatted wooden wall, transitions entertaining to the landscaped back garden below.
- A lovingly restored three-story 1904 brownstone where harmony and balance are achieved through the skillful mix of elements--wood, stone, metal, plaster, paint, along with 19th and 20th century Asian and English antiques. Family friendly adult and child spaces include a light-filled greenhouse, designer kitchen, two spa-like baths, a large playroom and landscaped front and rear gardens.
- An elegant 1898 neo-Renaissance limestone and brick townhouse with landscaped gardens, two-story glass atrium and marble bath. Eclectic and vintage furnishings blend with over-the-top Victorian inspired accents. Antique picture frames, early photo albums, period lamps and art pottery abound.
- Having much of the ornate 1906 interior destroyed by fire in the 1970s left a “blank slate” for the creation of a tasteful, contemporary, urban home within a grand, historic structure. The result is outfitted with an elegant slate bath suite boasting cascading water and skylight, a stainless-steel kitchen/entertaining area and a gracious music room.
- A ninety-eight year-old carefully restored and modernized limestone home boasts original decorative plaster ceilings and moldings, parquet floors with intricate borders, creative use of salvaged details from Manhattan landmarks, a literally home-made kitchen, and surprising use of space on all three floors.
- A 1910 two-story limestone with stunning top-to-bottom restoration is the perfect setting for a remarkable collection of art, furnishings and memorabilia acquired during extensive international travel. The multi-level back deck is enlivened with plantings and shaded by a motorized awning, and a white weeping birch tree.
- The English basement of a two-story 1909 brownstone has been totally transformed into a “loft-like” space creatively housing a new bedroom, bath, family room and much needed storage. Access is convenient to both front and back gardens with deck and play area.
- The front garden of a local landscape gardener.
- Prospect Park Audubon Center at the Boathouse: Tour goers are welcome to self-explore the Center between the hours of 12 Noon and 5 PM. A Guided Tour of the Prospect Park Boathouse, led by the architect Ralph Carmosino who designed and managed the building’s renovation, is available at 3:00 PM.
